Hello all. I am a new Permanent Resident of Canada and am presently residing in Toronto. I plan to get my Masters degree in Computer Science but classes doesn't begin until September next year. While I wait for my classes to begin, I want get some experience in the field of IT in Canada. Note that I only have a little experience in IT in my home country. Hence I believe that it would probably be a good idea to get into some IT training course (such as vendor certification courses like MCP, CCNA, SAP, etc) to apply for a job. I would like some suggestions what would be a relatively short IT certification course (note that I would prefer a short course as I don't have time to enroll in a year long program since my post-grad studies will begin Sep-2011) for getting a job quickly in the Canadian market at present. And also, what would be a good training institute? There are many training institutes over here in Toronto and everyone advertises that their course is most likely to get me a job. I would appreciate it if anyone can provide me any suggestions and advice in this regard. Thanks.

I've been in the field for 25 years and I'm working on my CCNA right now. Many of the software related certifications come and go, but learning about routing and IP configurations will be useful a long time.

IT Jobs in Ontario - Certifications?

Hello I will be repatriating to Canada next year, after having lived in Europe for a few good years - and I was wondering if anyone who works within the IT industry can tell me which Microsoft certifications will help me land a job when I get there? I have a few months to take a Microsoft course, and I hear CompTIA A+ is required for many job postings... I have ten years working experience doing computer repairs, software and hardware trouble shooting, setting up networks and trouble shooting networks for small businesses (30 users), maintaining and updating small business servers, backup, building desktop pc's, managing networks and wireless networks, network printers, etc... so basically I need some certifications to show my various skills. I have been in contact with some Microsoft test centers where I live and they told me I should do the MCSA certification - but I'm not sure if this is widely asked for in Canada? Feedback from IT techs/network administrators/computer technicians would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sure, MCSA or MCSE are both considered important certificates if you want to do server support

Scope of Microsoft Certification...MCTS: SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence?

I did my BCS in computers almost 7 years back and since then I am working as a data analyst in Canada, which is more inclined towards Business than Computers itself… my function involves analysing data trends using Excel and Power point than any fancy tools/software… While analysing recent market trend, I’ve noticed that IT pay scale is higher than Business one… So, I am thinking of going through certification to polish my skills to assist me in career advancement… Since I’ve been associated with data mining, I believe certification in database would be a right choice (I don’t want to be a DBA – though there is nothing wrong with it, but it’s not my preference)… I’ve noticed MCTS: SQL Server 2005 Business Intelligence is the easiest one to conquer as it requires only one exam… Please advice how would you rate this certification by keeping in view A) Future and current demand for this certification and C) would I be required to do some other courses/certificaitons e.g ASP

A question about a career working with computers.?

I am 15 and live in Canada. I really want too work with computers when I am older. I know that computer engineers and computer scientists make a lot of money, but I am more in to the physical side. I would rather do repairs, fix computers both internally and directly sitting down at someone's computer and fixing it. I really like knowing ow things work and when put together how the parts work. I plan on getting my A+ Certification soon to start working as a technician. I was wondering if anyone knows what jobs I could get from these interests that will still allow me too earn enough to easily support a family. I am looking for a job anywhere from 60,000 to 100,000 after a while, I would work up too that of course. Thank you very much. P.S: What does a computer technician do and how much can they earn? Okay Rudolph don't try to scam me I am not stupid. And the guy after you, thanks for the helpful tip un-like Rudolph. I will certainly stay current with technology. I just have no interest in sitting in front of a screen writing code. I would rather be working hands on fixing a computer.

Stay current with technology....if you are only 15, you might not be entering the workforce for three to six more years, by which time things may be completely different!
