what is a good price to pay for Microsoft certification?

im thinking of attending a 6 month course at a local school. it is a micrsoft certification program on windows server 2003. it includes: mcp, mcsa, mcse, and cat 5 cabling. it also includes tuition, microsoft text books, software, lab manuals, self test software, 7 exams, a desktop computer(that you keep) and "career placement" my main question is, are the certifications offered high in demand? I was quoted $25,000 for everything. is that price high, low or in the middle? (sounds high to me..)

It seems high to me. I think MCP and MCSA are included in MCSE, I'm pretty sure they are not exactly separate. Cat 5 cabling is good to know, but not all that complicated. My question is can you really complete all of that in six months? I completed an MCSE about eight years ago that took several months to complete. The price tag for that was about $5000 by itself. Have you looked into the completion rates for students in that program? You want to find out how many students enroll vs. how many graduate. Also, of those that graduate, how many pass all of the exams? What kind of financial aid can you get, are you being subsidized by an employer? Be careful, this may be a good idea but do your homework first. If the enrollment to certification ratio is high, then you can be confident that it is a good program. Look at other options in your area for pricing comparison as well.

What degree or certification is best for a computer repair job?

Im looking to change careers. I've always liked fixing computers and think I would enjoy doing that full time. What degree would be best to get a good paying job? I'd like to get a associates degree or something that I can put on a resume to show I know a little something about it. What are some options? Any answer is appreciated.

It's always best if you can take a 4yr degree in Computer Technology. If this is not practical, then get a 2yr degree that is either TAC/ABET or ATMAE-accredited. Community Colleges are cheap and mostly OK. The only 2yr for-profit college degree I recommend is DeVry's ECT degree. A lot of people don't like DeVry, and in fact it is NOT ABET accredited, but DeVry's 4yr Computer Technology degrees are TAC/ABET-accredited, and the 2yr courses are in the same school, so there's some umbrella effect. People tell you to get one of several Microsoft or proprietary Certs. My advice is different: You should get CET (Certified Engineering Techncian) Certification from one of ISCET, NICET or ETA.

Will Army TA or GI Bill cover computer / IT certification courses?

I'm an active army soldier with both TA and the GI Bill. Just wondering if certification courses such as Microsoft certification courses fall under these or if I will have to pay for them out of pocket. What about TA? I'm trying not to use the GI Bill if its possible until I'm out of the Army. Will TA cover it while I'm still in?

Yes as I know two guys taking Cisco 1 and 2 and paying for it via the GI Bill.

What is the best computer certification to have to qualify for a good paying job?

I have several certifications and study all the time and would like to take more tests. I don't have a preference, I just want to learn as much as I can.

That depends on where do you want direct your career. If you want to do Systems administration. I will highly sugggest getting an LPI certification t (Debian Linux). This is a well respected cert, and even for adminitrating Windows Server because as we all know Linux is much more complicated. Also having a CISCO CCNA certification is a good (and expensive) for network administration.

what is the Highest Paying Certifications in computer filed?

I doubt that there is one solid "highest paying" certification. There are some that are more in demand, but you need to remember that a certification is not worth very much without real, practical experience. I know MSCE's who cannot get anywhere because all they have is years in a business environment before they went to get certified...no IT Dept wants to hire them because they have little or no real world experience, and they generally are not nearly as valuable as those who are "born" nerds. If you have computer experience...even if it is just hacking in your mom's basement...and you want to find a cert that will get you a job and pay well, look into Oracle. Oracle DB's are ridiculously expensive to purchase, so people will invest a lot of money in a talented DBA to maintain it. It is not an easy cert, but an Oracle DBA can count on around 80k once they are established in the field. Again though...it is a spectacular mistake to assume that ANY certification can or will get you a job in IT. You need to talk the talk, and walk the walk. Certifications will only get you the first part of that.

If you go to a two year community college (where, if you're broke now...they're pretty much pay you to go) you can get a computer security or a networking degree. The cool thing about two year colleges, is that you can take most of your classes online. If you have an associates degree in netwroking or security, you can pretty much do whatever you want with computers. =) (An A+ and C+ certification might also be a good idea. Which is just a test you need to take.)
